Make a plan

If you wake up in the morning and try to start your day without any direction, you can find yourself wasting time. It might seem exceptionally pedantic but you need to make a plan for what you want to achieve during the day. This means mapping out in as much detail as possible what you should be doing. It is not as simple as creating a to-do list, rather it is list that will help define your goal for the day.

Remove distractions

Throughout the day, you might find yourself getting distracted by any number of things. Emails popping into your inbox, a text pinging on your phone. When we are distracted, we lose focus and are less productive. In fact, it takes around 25 minutes to regain focus after you have been interrupted. If you are dealing with a lot of distractions in the day, you are never truly focused and are losing precious time. This means unplugging from social media and removing the things which you know will pull your attention away.

Take rest breaks

When it comes to taking breaks, the first thought people have is working over lunch. We all know this is a bad habit, but some people take work to the extreme and work all night too. Working excess hours is counterproductive and bad for your health. Taking a planned break is not the same as getting distracted by something. By forming healthy rest habits, you will find yourself becoming less distracted, more focused, and in better health.

Your Productivity, Made Better

Do your worst task first

This is probably one of the worst kept secrets in productivity but one that everyone hates doing. By ticking the worst task off your list first thing in the day, you mentally free up space that is wasted dreading the task. Once the worst thing is completed, you can shift your attention to other tasks and complete them efficiently.

Use the correct tools

It might be tempting to use all of the tools known in your industry to help get your work done, however you need to ask yourself if they are really useful. Productivity tools are a big business and can be useful if you choose the right ones. Your tools can be as complicated as CFD for trading or as simple as pen and paper for note taking. Whichever one you choose, make sure they are the right fit for you. It may be worth the effort of researching and using a select few tools rather than too many that yield zero results.

There are many other tried and tested strategies that you can use to help enhance your day. These are some of the simplest that can be applied to a broad range of industries and small businesses.
