Read Books on Mindfulness

A positive mindset requires you to be aware of just what’s going on up there. Mindfulness is the practice of awareness of your thoughts and feelings. If you’re new to the idea of mindfulness, there are plenty of books available that help to provide a deeper understanding of how this powerful practice works.

Here are some books on mindfulness to consider:

  • The Power of Now – Eckhart Tolle
  • The Untethered Soul – Michael Singer
  • The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching – Thich Nhat Hahn
  • The Surrender Experiment – Michael Singer

If these books don’t appeal to you, feel free to search on sites like Amazon for more options. You want to find a book that works best for you.

Write it Out

It would be quite the challenge to change your mindset if you aren’t sure what and how you are thinking. This is why writing down your thoughts is so helpful when you’re working to shift to a more positive mindset.

You could consider free writing in a journal. Free writing requires no prompts, and you can essentially dump your thoughts out onto paper. Over time, you may seem to notice patterns in your thoughts and feelings, and this can help you to move away from the more negative thoughts and plant positive ones.

There are also hundreds of journal prompts that you can turn to if the free writing process doesn’t work the best for you. Journal prompts are also a great tool to have you think about ideas you hadn’t thought of before. It can essentially pull information from you that you weren’t consciously aware of before.

Try Meditation

Once you’ve read up on mindfulness, you are certainly familiar with meditation. Meditation is essential when it comes to getting a positive mindset. This doesn’t mean you need to become a Buddhist monk, as meditation comes in many different shapes and sizes.

Mindfulness meditation is one of the easiest, yet effective, meditation practices to explore. It requires closing your eyes and following your breath. You will put all of your focus on the inhale and the exhale of your breath. It’s best to breathe in and out through your nose as opposed to your mouth during this meditation practice.

Keep in mind that the purpose of meditation is not to have no thoughts but to observe the thoughts as they come in. Once you are aware of a thought, you simply let it pass by. You can think of it like watching clouds in the sky – but the clouds are your thoughts.

Spend Time with Loved Ones

Quality time with those you love is a surefire way to get you into a positive mindset. If possible, try and set aside some time each week to connect with friends and family. This doesn’t mean you need to physically see them, even a call can work wonders for feeling inner peace and love.

A word of caution: you should make sure that the time you spend with loved ones doesn’t interfere with your mission to build a positive mindset. If you have a friend or family member who is more negative, you should try and avoid utilizing them for your practice in building a positive mindset. This doesn’t mean you cut them out of your life, you should just be aware of their negativity before it seeps into your own life.

Limit Social Media

Social media has many wonderful benefits. However, just like with most things, you should use everything in moderation. If you find yourself feeling down after scrolling social media, it may be time to take a break from it.

Also, if the majority of those you “follow” on social media cause you to feel less worthy of yourself, it may be time to remove or “hide” them from your profile. You don’t want to constantly be comparing yourself to others.
