How To Boost Your Career When Working From Home

 In career

Trying to boost your career when you are working from home, either temporarily or permanently, can be tough. It’s not that you don’t want to achieve more, it’s just that for some, the surroundings aren’t ideal, and it can feel a little too comfortable to want to change anything. No matter how ambitious you might be, these thoughts are always going to be there in the back of your mind.

However, you shouldn’t let your working situation, whether you enjoy it or not, dictate how your career will go. If you genuinely want to boost your career you can do it even if you are working from home and may not always have your boss’s ear.

How To Boost Your Career When Working From Home

Advocate For Yourself

If you’re not there in front of your boss, how are you going to show him or her just what you can do? They’ll see the end result of your work, but not the effort you want to in order to produce the report or complete the task. If you don’t have any in-person meetings to attend and it’s not quite as easy to have a quick chat with your employer about how you see your career going, it can feel as though things are getting relatively stagnant.

In this case, it’s important to create opportunities for yourself. Make sure you always advocate for yourself when you can. This might be in video calls, through emails, or you might even arrange to speak to your employer in person if there is something very important to say. The more effort you put in, the more you will be noticed.

Keep Networking

Just because you are working from home and therefore don’t see colleagues or acquaintances as much as you would if you commuted to an office each day, that doesn’t mean you have to stop networking. Many people find that networking is the best way to get ahead in their careers, especially if they can’t see themselves staying with their current employer forever.

It’s entirely possible to network online using a variety of different tools such as LinkedIn or attending virtual networking events. Or you might choose to start leaving your home and sharing an office once in a while. This is the ideal place to meet people who may be able to help you find a new job or a promotion.

Gain Qualifications

One of the best things about working from home is the additional time you will have. With no commute to think about, you could gain a good many hours in the day. So what could you do with these hours that might help you boost your career? You could study. Enrolling in an online course to gain additional qualifications that will help you to climb the ladder in your career is invaluable. Although you will have to invest in your education, the outcome could help you to get precisely where you want to.

Even if you don’t use these new qualifications specifically for work, it will still be a fun thing to do and will keep your brain working well too.
